2018 Unogwaja Challenge Team Announcement

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the team that will continue the Unogwaja Legacy in 2018 as the Unogwaja Challenge enters its 8th year!

For the first time, the announcement was made via a live broadcast on Facebook with founder John McInroy honoring the team their individual Unogwaja numbers! It is a great privilege to name the 64th person to embark on this incredible journey, a number which we hope will continue to grow in the future!

If you missed the live broadcast, you can watch it HERE.

This team of 12 individuals from 5 different countries was carefully selected through a rigorous application and interview process. 2 of the team members will return for the second time, while 10 receive their new unique Unogwaja number. Departing from Cape Town on Thursday 30 May 2018, the team will cycle 1 770km across South Africa over the course of 10 days before running the gruelling 89km Comrades Marathon from Pietermaritzburg on 10 June 2018.

The Unogwaja Challenge itself is always an emotional one for the entire team. In addition to spreading a special message of hope while on their 10-day cycling journey, they also get to meet the people behind many of the community projects supported by Unogwaja along the way.

Message From Unogwaja

It is indeed a great privilege to welcome such a diverse, committed and passionate group of people onto the 2018 Unogwaja Challenge Team!

We are fully aware of what lies ahead for each individual over the next 9 months – both in terms of the physical challenge as well as the fundraising efforts they will embark on as we collectively aim to raise R2-million for the Unogwaja Light Fund in 2018.

We wish each team member good luck for their journey ahead, and pledge our continued commitment to help each one of them along the way.

We are also extremely grateful to our sponsors who continue to support our dream, without whom an undertaking of such magnitude would be much more difficult to achieve.

Thanks to everyone who supports Unogwaja. You form an integral part of our vision and we know that this team will be surrounded by people who believe in a better South Africa.

Best wishes,

Nicola Collins
Unogwaja CEO
