Etana sponsorship enables Unogwaja to re-double 2014 charity goal to R1 million

The Unogwaja Challenge announces that Etana Insurance has committed to be the headline sponsor for our fourth annual Unogwaja Challenge in 2014, making a charity goal of R1 million possible.

“Thanks to Etana’s support and innovative initiatives in 2013 we overshot our R250 000 target for funds raised for Comrades Charities, doubling our donation this year to R500 000 – and in 2014 we’ve re-doubled our goal to R1million,” says John McInroy, creator of the 11-day Unogwaja endurance challenge involving 10 days of cycling from Cape Town to Durban or Pietermaritzburg, concluding on day 11 with running the Comrades Marathon.

“We are drawn to the ‘make-it-happen and never take no for an answer’ attitude of the South African hero that the event highlights because that’s one of Etana’s values,” says spokesman Carel Nolte.  “And three years ago, when John McInroy pitched up to our first meeting dressed in nothing but a red DAREdevil Run speedo and his iconic red socks I knew he was a kindred spirit.  We immediately agreed to join in the spirit of his red socks, which was the original purpose of that first meeting but our relationship has grown to embrace other life-altering projects like Unogwaja as well as DAREdevil.”

McInroy explains “The Unogwaja Challenge is a unique event that is a journey of the heart for the participants and volunteers.  Our long-term motivation is to create one of the most meaningful and personally empowering events in the world which is not a ‘race’ based on individual competition but proof of the great heights people can achieve when they unify; encouraging and inspiring each other behind a common purpose fuelled by passion.”
